Gerry Martin
Gerry Martin served in the U.S. Air Force during the latter years of the Vietnam War at the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served as a Flight Surgeon and eye specialist. Gerry spent his early years in North Carolina. During high school he worked summers at a furniture factory where he developed a love of working with wood. For many years he dreamed of having his own woodworking shop, so following his work career he rekindled his interest and built a shop. In 2000 his woodworking focus changed from furniture to woodturning with the purchase of a lathe. Although he has turned bowls measuring 36” in diameter, his real joy is to concentrate on natural edged bowls from local wood near his home in Vermont. He likes to emphasize grain, aging, and stress patterns within the resulting bowl including burls and spalted woods. Many of his bowls are functional and decorative.
